Our Profile

Coughlan Associates Architects & Project Managers Ltd is a design led architectural practice with its offices at 60 Austin Friars Street, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.
The firm has built up a reputation for producing well considered, well designed buildings of a consistent high quality that contribute to the built environment.
The firm was founded in 1981 by Patrick Coughlan who previously worked with the esteemed firm of Scott Tallon Walker Architect in Dublin.
Patrick Coughlan M.R.I.A.I. is a registered member of the Royal Institute of Architects in Ireland and is an RIAI accredited conservation architect.
The practice believes in close co-operation with clients in order to fully understand their requirements and procure an imaginative, appropriate and cost effective solution for each particular project. The success of the practice over the years has been recognised through obtaining repeat work from its established client base and obtaining new clients by word of mouth and the quality design and service they provide.
We believe that each project undertaken is unique and recognising the client's requirements is fundamental to the success of the project. Being dedicated to design and excellence, we endeavour to give professional advice throughout the design of the building process relying on our experience to help guide clients to the best possible solution within budget constraints. This combined with sensitivity to the surrounding landscape or streetscape in terms of scale and portion ensure the maximum benefit to all future users, occupiers and the general public.
We endeavour to use materials and construction methods which are most appropriate to create high quality buildings incorporating a balanced view between functionality and aesthetics.  Many older buildings have stood the test of time well, we believe there is no reason why today's modern buildings should not do likewise.
Our policy in the practice is to always pay careful attention to detail from an early stage of a project right through to completion. This ensures projects satisfy the clients briefs and get delivered on time and on budget. It is our policy to always try and provide as much detail as possible at tender stage of a project to avoid cost overruns. More work at the start of a project pays off for all concerned at the end, saving time, money and unnecessary stress on everyone. If a problem comes up we deal with it promptly. Great emphasises is placed on achieving a huge level of quality in all aspects of our work from conception to detail design to production information and project management.
The practice has over the past 27 years provided valuable local employment and has assembled a team of highly qualified creative staff with wide experience in all aspects of design and construction technology as we believe it is essential to keep fully up to date with the rapid changes in the industry. With this in mind the practice invests heavily in technology and continuous professional development each year. Staff to use their own talents and introduce new ideas and initiative to the workplace. If a problem comes up deal with it promptly.
